Mount Sunapee Resort Announces Scholarship Recipients for the 2008-2009 School Year

Newbury, NH – (June 13, 2008) – Tim and Diane Mueller, operators of Mount Sunapee Resort, are pleased to announce the seven recipients of the Mount Sunapee Council Scholarship Awards for the 2008/2009 school year.  These scholarships, at $5,000 each over a four year period, have been awarded from the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund to students of our three regional high schools: Sunapee, Newport and Kearsarge.  

Funding for the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund is from the annual Snow Ball held at Mount Sunapee Resort every February.  The Fund is used for the Mount Sunapee Council Scholarships and to support student education, environmental education and the arts in the Lake Sunapee region.  Since 1999, 52 students have received over $230,000 in scholarships from the Mount Sunapee Community Challenge Fund.

“Tim and I believe that education is central to our local prosperity and to an individual’s ability to achieve their career goals and lead a fulfilling life,” commented Diane Mueller.  “These scholarship programs support our belief of fostering education and enhancing community spirit.”

Mount Sunapee Resort also awards four scholarships of $1,000 each to Mount Sunapee Resort employee students and employee dependents allowing them to further their academic endeavors

Mount Sunapee Council Scholarships have been awarded to the following seven high school seniors for 2008/2009:

Danielle Baker of Newport, NH, a graduate of Newport Middle High School, earned a 3.48 gpa and is a NH Scholar. She was class president for her sophomore, junior and senior years.  She was also captain of the softball team and captain of the cheerleading team for two years.  She will attend the University of New Hampshire majoring in Psychology and Counseling.

Hannah Dean of South Sutton, NH, a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, earned a 3.68 gpa and will graduate in the top 10% of her class.  She is a National Honor Society member and recipient of the Harvard/Radcliff Book Award.  She was also captain of the soccer team and sang in the Women’s Choir.  She will attend St. Lawrence University majoring in English and Education.

Kyle DiPaola of Sunapee, NH, a graduate of Sunapee High School, earned a 3.70 gpa and will graduate seventh in his class.  He is a National Honor Society member and senior class president.  He was co-captain of the soccer team for two years while earning All-Conference and  All-State honors in his junior and senior years.  He will attend Northeastern University majoring in Pharmacy.
 
Peter Kontoes of Sunapee, NH, a graduate of Sunapee High School, earned a 3.57 gpa and will graduate in the top 10 in his class.  He is a National Honor Society member and he participated in the Harvard Model Congress for two years and was also co-captain of the soccer team for two years.  He will attend Bentley College majoring in Business Administration.

Margaret Meninno of Newbury, NH, a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, earned a 3.66 gpa and will graduate in the top 10% of her class.  She was captain of the field hockey team and earned All-State honors.  She helped create the equestrian team at Kearsarge RHS.  Margaret will attend Wentworth Institute majoring in Interior Design.

Ursula “Sage” Sahagian Mills of Enfield, NH, a graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School, will graduate third in her class with a 3.96 gpa.  She has earned many academic and musical awards. She is a highly accomplished musician playing the oboe, and has earned NH All-State awards in music for four years.  She will attend The Peabody Institute majoring in Music and Performing Arts.

Renee Watts of Newport, NH, a graduate of Newport Middle High School, earned a 3.86 gpa and will graduate in the top 10% of her class. She was president of the 4-H Club, and she was captain and MVP of the track and field team.  She will attend Bentley College majoring in Business Administration and Marketing.
 
Mount Sunapee Employee Dependent Student Scholarships

Morrill Leighton Whittemore of Newbury, MA is a graduate of Newburyport High School and will be attending University of New Hampshire where she plans to major in Pre-Med.  Her father, Patrick, has worked as an instructor in the Learning Center at Mount Sunapee for the past four seasons.  Morrill received several leadership awards including the Dr. James C. Pramberg Award and the People to People world leadership title of Ambassador of Massachusetts twice.  

Gail K. Winsor of Swanzey, NH is a graduate of Monadnock Regional High School and will be attending University of New Hampshire where she will major in Communications.  Her mother, Kathy, is a supervisor for the Ambassador program at Mount Sunapee.  Gail graduated with a 3.8 gpa and participated in four years of soccer, swimming and softball in addition to being a member of the National Honor Society.         

Mount Sunapee Resort Employee Student Scholarships

Emily Chadwick of Newbury, NH is currently attending Sargent College at Boston University where she is majoring in Athletic Training.  She graduated from Kearsarge Regional High School in 2005.  Emily spent four years on the varsity ski team at Kearsarge High School and has continued to ski on the Boston University Ski Team for the past three years.  She works in the Learning Center at Mount Sunapee.    

Kimberly Contant of Penacook, NH has a has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Counseling from Keene State College and is currently attending Nursing School at University of New Hampshire.  This past winter she worked in Guest Services at Mount Sunapee.  At Keene State she was a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society of Psychology.  Her goal is to run her own psychiatric practice.
