Newbury, NH – (September, 2009) – Every year Mount Sunapee Resort is top-rated in the East for snow quality and grooming.  Culinary Director Travis “Biscuit” Smith’s goal is that the food be yet another way to differentiate the resort.  Earlier in his career Travis was a camp cook for an outfitter in Idaho and Wyoming where he earned the nickname “Biscuit”.  “We were out on the trail for weeks at a time and I learned to prepare quality food with quality presentation with what I could put on the back of a mule,” says Smith.

“We try not to look at ourselves as a food outlet,” says Smith, “but rather grandma’s pantry where we prepare home-style comfort food.”  There are daily home-made specials in both the Sunapee Lodge and Spruce Lodge food courts including shepard’s pie, American chop suey, macaroni & cheese and stuffed peppers.  Cookies and brownies are fresh-baked with quality ingredients.  The fish & chips platter served Friday in Goosefeathers Pub is so fresh and good it draws locals to Mount Sunapee just for lunch.

While cheeseburgers, fries and chili remain the staples at a ski resort, Mount Sunapee offers options that showcase the creativity and expertise of the culinary staff.  The Sizzler Station in the Sunapee Lodge is open weekends and holidays and offers made-to-order lunch entrees featuring fresh, healthy ingredients.  The entrée is prepared to order in front of the guest.  Popular items in both base lodges are the yogurt parfait bars featuring all-natural Stonyfield yogurt with all the toppings.  New last year and returning again this season is the Summit Dog Bar with natural casing hot dogs from North Country Smokehouse and all the toppings, except ketchup of course.  The Sunapee Espresso Coffee Bars offer premier coffee grinds from Boston’s Best, specialty coffees and gourmet baked goods.

This winter skiers and riders can sample Mount Sunapee’s culinary delights on Free Lunch Thursdays.  Each Thursday during non-holiday periods each guest who purchases a full-price all-day lift ticket will receive a $12 voucher that can be used for lunch at any of Mount Sunapee’s food outlets.  Who says there’s no thing as a free lunch?
