Newbury, NH – (February 4, 2011) – 2010 Olympic Gold Medalist and 2009 Overall World Cup Champion freestyle skier Hannah Kearney will be at Mount Sunapee Resort on Saturday, February 12 courtesy of Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Hannah and staff from Dartmouth-Hitchcock will be in the Spruce Lodge lobby from 11:30am until 3:00pm interacting with guests at the resort. Hannah will have her Olympic Gold Medal with her and guests can get autographs and photos with Hannah. She will also be presenting the awards for the Tecnica Cup that will be held at Mount Sunapee on Saturday for Senior, JI and JII alpine racers.

After winning the World Freestyle Championship in 2005 and National Championship in 2006 Hannah suffered a severe knee injury, a torn ACL, which sidelined her for the 2007-2008 seasons. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center’s Sports Medicine Team repaired her knee using advanced surgical techniques and provided a comprehensive program for recovery enabling Hannah to regain her world leadership in the freestyle mogul discipline.

At 24, Hannah’s lifetime athletic achievements are indeed impressive. She was World Freestyle champ in 2005, four-time junior national and three-time national champion by age 20, before injury halted her progress. Hannah has 32 world cup podiums including 15 gold medals. She was a 2010 ESPY nominee for Best Female Olympic athlete in July, and selected for first pitch honors at Boston’s Fenway Park and Grand Marshall of the Boston Marathon this past April. Most recently, Hannah won five consecutive World Cup competitions leading up to the world championships this past weekend where she came in a close second, taking home the Silver.

Hannah started skiing at age 2, coming up through the Ford Sayre (NH) youth ski program and Nick Preston's Black and Blue Trail Smashers Team at Waterville Valley, N.H. She was a high school state soccer and track champion.

Kearney is a member of a sports-crazed family. Her mother is a recreation director in Norwich; her brother, Denny, is a star hockey player at Yale; and her dad used to coach Denny in Babe Ruth baseball. Kearney was a straight-A student.
